Teaching games & opening training
We don’t use handicaps. Instead, we usually stop around 50 to 80 moves.
That window is where the most practical lessons live: direction of play, joseki choices, tesuji, timing of tenuki, big points, and, most importantly, spotting your early weaknesses.
Play openings you dislike or fear. I show you how I handle them and explain the concepts so you can face them confidently.
Play the way you normally do. I point out weaknesses in your decisions, shape, and direction of play.
We choose one opening and go deep. Once you truly master it, you can hold your ground in the opening even vs 7d–8d players.
Why the opening matters so much
Many players think their main problem is reading or middle game fighting. Often, the real problem starts in the opening.
Your opening choices shape the whole board and set the direction of the game. When your openings fit your strengths, you enter the middle game in good positions instead of constant emergencies.
At amateur levels, getting the opening right can easily give you a winning position within the first 50 moves, even against equal-strength opponents.
What you’ll actually learn
The goal is real understanding, not memorizing fixed answers.
- • Think clearly and consistently during play
- • Make decisions that fit your style
- • Find crucial and big moves during games
- • Spot and exploit your opponent’s weaknesses (a rarely taught but critical skill)
We use your own games to improve your middle game and endgame, so you learn how to beat the specific players and styles you face now.
