What’s included each month
Weekly 1:1 session (about 1–2 hours)
Every lesson follows a clear structure:
- • Review of a recent game you played
- • A teaching game with Zee
- • A review of the teaching game
The balance can shift week by week depending on what you need most.
Send one game in advance
You send Zee one recent game so he can review the key points in advance.
This makes the live review smoother, more focused, and leaves more time for questions and teaching game work.
Study plan, homework, and tsumego
After each lesson, you leave with a specific study plan. This includes:
- • Which Kyu Dan System lessons to watch
- • Which openings, tactics, or variations to review
- • Which habits or moves to pay attention to in your next games
- • Daily tsumego guidance, adjusted to your schedule:
- ○ How many problems to do each day
- ○ Which kinds of problems (life-and-death, tesuji, endgame, etc.)
- ○ Workload matched to the amount of time you realistically have
You always know exactly what to work on between sessions, and in what order.
Access to the Kyu Dan System and community
Your private coaching is supported by the full Kyu Dan System, which acts as your main study framework.
You get access to:
- • 100+ recorded lessons and tutorials on openings, principles, invasions, middle game ideas, and more
- • Structured study paths organised by topic and level
- • A long-running weekly study group
- • A focused training community
In the weekly study group, members:
- • Play games with each other
- • Watch lessons together
- • Discuss positions and sequences
- • Give each other homework based on the current topic
New themes are introduced every few weeks and the group runs continuously, so you always have a stable environment to train with peers who are also serious about improving.
Support between sessions
Between lessons, you can contact Zee whenever questions come up.
If you:
- • Meet a position you don’t understand
- • Get confused by a variation in a review or analysis
- • Want to check whether a sequence is sound
…you can send a screenshot or a whole game and ask. You do not have to wait until the next lesson to get clarification.
How a typical lesson works
Review your game live
Together you go through the critical positions and key sequences. You explain what you were thinking; Zee shows where the direction or choice of move should change. You can ask questions throughout.
Play a teaching game
Teaching games are played without handicap and guided toward positions that highlight the concepts you need and are tailored to your personal style: opening choices, direction of play, timing of tenuki, and more.
Analyse the teaching game
You then review the teaching game together and link your decisions to clear ideas. Repeated over time, this structure builds a stable way of thinking that you can apply in any game.
Teaching games and opening focus
Teaching games focus mainly on the opening and early middle game (often the first 50–80 moves), where your choices have the greatest impact on the rest of the game.
Core themes include:
- • Direction of play
- • Selecting joseki that fit both the board and your style
- • Timing of tenuki
- • Recognising big points on the board
- • Finding and fixing your overall weaknesses
Turning study into real results
The goal of reviewing your own games is that you become stronger in the games you actually play: on your usual servers, against your usual opponents.
By reviewing your games every week and basing your study plan on that review, you:
- • Identify the mistakes and habits that cause the most damage to your results
- • Connect those mistakes to specific concepts, lessons, and sequences
- • Turn them into a small number of clear objectives for the following week
- • Learn to exploit common mistakes from opponents at your own rank
Combined with the ability to ask questions whenever they arise, this creates a continuous feedback loop between:
